John Stewart September 5th 1939 - January 19th 2008

Wrasse Records are saddened to hear the news of John's death on Saturday 19th January. As announced on his oficial website, John suffered a massive stroke or brain aneurysm and died at a San Diego hospital. John's wife, children, former Kingston Trio bandmate Nick Reynolds and long-term friend and bassist Dave Batti were at his side when he died.

John and his wife Buffy had spent his last few days visiting Nick Reynolds and his wife, listening to and singing old Kingston Trio songs.

John leaves a huge musical legacy behind having recorded over 45 solo albums following his 7 years as a member of The Kingston Trio.

Biography

John Stewartinitially was in the Kingston Trio, who enjoyed 17 Top 20 albums in the US, Stewart came to the fore writing the Number One hit "Daydream Believer" for The Monkees. John then released a number of solo albums, most notibly "Lonesome Picker Rides Again", "California Bloodlines" and "Cannons In The Rain", working with the likes of James Taylor and Carole King through the seventies, receiving great critical acclaim and a legion of devoted followers. However, it was the association with Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac that brought Stewart huge success, The album "Bombs Away Dream Babies" featured Buckingham and the voice of Stevie Nicks went Top 10, with 3 Top 40 singles including Gold, which was Top 5.

In the 1980’s Stewart worked with the likes of Linda Ronstadt and again with Buckingham. His influence has been far reaching with the likes of Mary Chapin Carpenter and Nanci Griffith (with whom he duetted on her album "Sweet Dreams Will Come") regarding as their main influence and inspiration.
